Jacob & Hilda Blaustein Postdoctoral Associate Program

The Program in Jewish Studies at Yale University offers two-year postdoctoral fellowships, on a rotating basis, in the fields of Ancient, Medieval, and Modern Jewish Studies as well as in Jewish Thought. Each postdoctoral associate works closely with appropriate members of Yale’s faculty. Candidates must have received their Ph.D. before the start of the fellowship.

Jewish Studies Postdoctoral Associates are expected to be in residence, conduct research in Yale’s library and archival collections, participate actively in the intellectual life of the university, and teach two courses, one per year, with the option of substituting the organization of a conference, seminar, or colloquium for the second year’s course.

“Being a Postdoctoral Associate in Jewish Studies and Philosophy at Yale was a formative experience. I had the privilege of working with incredible colleagues and mentors and teaching impressive Yale students, and co-organizing, together with Prof. Paul Franks, two conferences in philosophy and Jewish thought. A unique aspect of my Yale experience was the opportunity to teach modern philosophy in Yale’s Directed Studies program. This experience opened my eyes to the interdisciplinary and inter-departmental collaborations and possibilities that make intellectual life at Yale so exceptional.”

“Being a Yale postdoc in the Program in Jewish Studies was a life-changing experience for me. I enjoyed close mentorship with leading scholars in my field and the opportunity to teach highly engaged Yale students, which enriched both my teaching and research portfolio. I felt at home in the department through its many intellectual and social events, forming new avenues for research and lasting professional connections.”
