Noah Avigan is a PhD student in the Department of Religious Studies. He studies the Hebrew Bible and its component literary works, with a particular focus on the Pentateuch. His research sits at the intersection of historical and literary criticism, covering issues such as compositional history, characterization and character building, world building and narrativity, and ancient Near Eastern literary comparanda. In his work on ancient Israelite literature, Noah engages contemporary literary theory, including questions surrounding the theory of composite literature, narrative theory and narratology, poetics, and literariness. 

Before coming to Yale, Noah earned a BA in English from Columbia University and an MA in Religion from the University of Chicago Divinity School.
