In AFTER: Poetry Destroys Silence, contemporary poets confront the Shoah and the responsibility of art to respond to genocide. Writer and survivor Aharon Appelfeld stated, “…the Holocaust must not be entrusted to historians alone. Now comes the hour of artistic creation.”
Named one of the best films of 2024 by rogerebert.com (The Best Movies and Mini-Series of 2024 | Roger Ebert), AFTER features Academy Award winning actor Melissa Leo; Géza Röhrig, star of the Academy Award winning film “Son of Saul”; Bo Corre; and poets Edward Hirsch, Alicia Ostriker, and 2025 Wallace Stevens Award winner Cornelius Eady, as well as the works of poets Paul Celan and Yehuda Amichai. The director, Richard Kroehling is a two-time Emmy award winning director. His films, television, and art installations have been exhibited at film festivals, TV networks, and museums around the world. The film serves as a testament and warning for an increasingly violent, divided world beset by trauma and endless war.
The film will be followed by a panel comprising Richard Kroehling, the film's director; Janet R. Kirchheimer, the film’s producer; and poet Cornelius Eady and will be moderated by Irwin Kula, also a producer of the film.
