Katie Trumpener is Emily Sanford Professor of Comparative Literature and English, and Graduate Faculty in Film and Media Studies. She works on modern European literature, film and visual culture.  Her current book project examines film life and “captive audiences” during the Nazi occupation of Europe, including the film lives, viewing experiences (and film memories) of Jewish spectators and of prisoners.  Other long-term research interests include the relationship of Yiddish literature to other Central European literatures and to modernism; and the critical work of Jewish writers and filmmakers in Cold War East Germany.
