Jewish Studies

Dov Honick is the Blaustein Postdoctoral Associate in Medieval Jewish History at Yale University. He earned his Ph.D. from the Medieval Institute at the University of Notre Dame and was a Rome Prize fellow in Medieval Studies at the American Academy in Rome prior to joining Yale. His research focuses on Jewish-Christian intellectual and cultural exchange in the High Middle Ages, with particular emphasis on the Christian Hebraist movement and the appropriation of rabbinic literature in anti-Jewish polemic. His current project, Midrash, Polemic, and the Formation of the Latin Talmud, explores how Christian scholars of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries accessed, translated, and reinterpreted Jewish texts—often blurring the boundaries between theological critique and genuine engagement with Jewish tradition. In addition to his research, Dov is committed to interdisciplinary pedagogy and public scholarship. He has presented his work to academic and interfaith audiences in both the United States and Europe, and he is particularly interested in how medieval sources can inform contemporary conversations around religious difference, interreligious dialogue, and the transmission of cultural knowledge across boundaries.
